Ben was diagnosed with Type I diabetes when he was 18 months old.  He (and his mother) dealt with it  during his youth.  He has made a life for himself in the mountains of Colorado doing what he loves.

His brother, Mark, wrote this on Facebook about Ben:

"There is a small number of people who charge as hard and challenge their bodies the way Ben does. He does this all the while battling his blood sugar levels skyrocketing up and crashing down to scary levels. If you know anyone with Type 1 Diabetes, then you may know what this does to your body. 

Ben is a kick ass skiier, face melting guitarist, an avid hunter, very talented photographer, rides downhill faster than most and is pretty much a righteous character.
